Heavy Vintage Swaziland Soapstone Tortoise – Rare Eswatini Hand-Carved Sculpture

Bring the rare artistry of Southern Africa to your home with this substantial hand-carved tortoise from Swaziland (Eswatini). Meticulously carved from a single block of dense, mineral-rich soapstone, this vintage sculpture weighs nearly 1kg (974g). 

 A timeless symbol of wisdom, longevity and patience, this stone animal is a beautiful example of authentic African folk art, not only a decoration but a heavy, high-quality statement piece.

Age: vintage from late 20th century 

Dimensions: length 16cm/6.3”, width 10cm/3.9”, 9cm/3.5” tall, weight 974gr

Condition: some small scratches on surface, wear on tortoises legs and a bit on head, dark colour scratched off on underside, please see photos.

Care: to maintain the deep, lustrous finish, occasionally apply a small amount of mineral oil or beeswax to the surface. This will protect the stone and deepen its natural color.
