Antique Late Meiji Period Lacquerware Tray - Maki-e Gold Landscape

This beautiful antique papier-mâché lacquer tray is decorated in the Maki-e style, where gold and reddish-toned powders are applied to wet lacquer to create a raised, shimmering image. A stunning hand-painted panoramic scene features depicts figures in boat on a lake, minka houses along the shoreline, sailing boats and pine trees - classic theme in Japanese Ukiyo-e art.
Maker: Japanese workshop for export (mark on the back of the tray 6356)
Age: late Meiji to early Taisho period (1890–1920)
Material: authentic period papier-mâché (hariko) base, finished with multiple layers of protective black lacquer, this combination provides a lightweight yet durable structure.
Measurements: diameter 30cm/11.8”, weight 310gr
Condition: very good, antique piece wear consistent with age. Minor surface ware and scratches and light rubbing to the gilt edge- please check the photos provided.
