Antique Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, English language deluxe edition

This is an illustrated antique English edition of Victor Hugo’s classic Les Misérables, produced by the well-known British publisher Ward, Lock & Co. The ornate spine and leather-bound design suggest this was a higher-end edition, late 19th /early 20th century. (1897-1910). 528 pages.

Hardcover – Half-Leather Binding, Publisher: Ward, Lock & Co., Limited – London, Melbourne and Toronto. Includes black-and-white illustrations, such as the frontispiece captioned “Cosette and Marius covered his hands with kisses.”
Dark green cloth boards with black pebbled leather corners and spine. The spine features gilt titling and decorative gilding, raised bands, with the title “Les Misérables” in gold. Mirror pages and all edges are in beautiful green and gold marble pattern. There is a neat previous owner’s signature on the front endpaper.

Measurements  width 13.5cm/5.3", height 19.5cm/7.7", thickness 3.8cm/1.5".

Moderate wear on the spine ends and corners; rubbing visible on edges and some fraying on the top of the spine. There is a tear along the inner hinge. Gilt on spine is bright and legible. Pages are in good condition with some typical age-related toning. Please inspect the photos carefully.
