Chinese small porcelain metal mounted bowl
Pickup currently not available
This small bowl features transferware overglaze decoration in the Famille Verte palette, which includes green, blue, red, yellow, and a mauvy-brown with black outlines. The central scene depicts a narrative image, possibly a court lady in a garden under a pine tree, a common motif in Chinese porcelain. There is calligraphy or a reign mark on the interior right side.
The rim is fitted with decorative metal mounts, which likely serve as a wall hanging or display feature. The mount is an ornate, three-dimensional representation of a Chinese dragon, likely the celestial dragon Tianlong associated with power, strength, and good fortune in Chinese mythology. The design is detailed, featuring scales, claws, and a flowing mane, and it is holding a pearl-like object under its chin. The style is characteristic of the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty.
Age: likely 19th/20th Century
Maker: It is an imperial-style reign mark but the actual maker is unknown, as these were produced in imperial kilns or by private kilns of the era.
Measurements: Diameter 13cm/5.1"
Bowl has a small scratch inside on lady's dress image.
