Traditional Naruto Kokeshi Doll by Okazaki Seishi

This is a traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll in the Naruko style. They are simple, limbless wooden dolls, hand-carved and painted in Japan, originating from the Tohoku region. Originally created as children toys from 19th century, Kokeshi are considered a symbol of good luck and fortune and are often given as gifts of friendship or love as well as a decorative pieces for home.
It has a natural wood finish with painted features, including black hair with red details and a smiling face with minimal lines. The body features prominent red and black floral (likely chrysanthemum) and stripe designs, made by master Okazaki Seishi (1926-2002) in Naruko Onsen town.
Age: made in 1970's, signature inscribed on the bottom of the doll.
Measurements: 21.5cm/ 8.4" tall, head girth 19cm/7.5", base diameter approx. 5cm/2", weight 211gr
Wear and patina consistent with age.
